Steve Johnson is running for House District 8; he ran for this office two years ago and has learned much since then. His wife calls him a Righteous Republican, and he wants to take on government spending.

What have you learned from campaigning and talking to the people of Wyoming?

The natives are restless; there is a subdued anger that the current officeholders have caused by themselves. The biggest is not having any property tax relief when the legislature increased spending by 18%. The meaningful tax relief bills introduced by the Wyoming Freedom Caucus would have cost the state about 2% of an eleven-billion-dollar budget. Any family budget can find 2% savings to spend on what they want.

What has been the best and worst thing about campaigning?

The smiles I see on the many faces when I explain I am seeking the House District 8 seat, they want change.
The loss of civility is discerning when I politely explain my opinions that don’t match theirs.

What, When, and Where do you have any events planned?

No events planned at this point. My team will be attending the Harriet Hageman rally July 27.

Why have you decided to run in this election?

I have 9 grandchildren and I am sure to have more. They should enjoy the same opportunities and freedoms I grew up with.

Have you held a political office before, or have you run before?

Two years ago, I was in a four-way race for this same office. I have learned from that experience in many ways.

What is your background and what qualifies you to be elected to office?

I am a retired general contractor and have seen the unintended consequences of poor law making and regulation. With age comes wisdom, I am 71 years young and to old to make a career out of this office. We need to change the direction Wyoming is headed.

What will be your number one priority if elected to office?

Property tax reform that includes spending reform. Wyoming is currently awash in money, so much money the Governor has decided to dig holes in the ground and bury it with his CO2 sequestration projects. This is one way Greenhouse Gordon can reward his friends.

Do you believe that there are issues in current state politics? What will you do to address these issues? If you don’t believe there are issues, how do you plan to keep the status quo?

This cowboy knows what a woman is. There is currently an attack on women’s rights in women’s sports, transgender issues promoted in schools, allowance of special rights for special groups to negate our Constitution. Following our own State Constitution is the ultimate guide.

As a Republican candidate, would you be willing to sign a pledge to follow the State GOP platform by at least 80%? If not, why?
My wife started this campaign by calling me a RIGHTEOUS Republican, that means I will not lie about my intentions as a Republican as my opponent does. I have attended the last 8 Republican State Conventions and agree with the platform and resolutions more than the 80% threshold.

Who do you get inspiration from? Are there any leaders or politicians, past or present, that you admire?

The Bible is the ultimate guide for morality that we need as a nation. George Washington 1st choice, Ronald Reagan, Ron Paul.

Is there anything else you would like to add?

The capitalist system is not the best form of government but it is the best that mankind has come up with. We have to be careful as we tweak it. The Convention of States sounds like a good idea to fix our problems, it is not. There is no magic pill to fix our problems, they were created over many years and will take our dedication and focus in our election process to made a difference.
