On Tuesday night, the LCGOP met to consider the resolution to censure Cheney. In a full room at The Metropolitan Downtown, the LCGOP voted 38 to 19 to censure Cheney. This is one more county party from across Wyoming, including the state GOP, that has censured Cheney over her impeachment vote of former President Donald Trump.
Ranae Snider, Precinct 3-5, read the resolution to censure Cheney. “This is not because we love Trump,” Snider said. “It is about that she voted without due process, without having witnesses, without having a hearing.”
Seven members of the LCGOP spoke in favor of the resolution, and two members spoke against the resolution.
“Liz Cheney has done a lot for us during her tenure in office. However, joining the Democrats and voting against the Republican Party and President Trump is, in my mind is an unforgivable act. She has betrayed us as her constituents, she has betrayed the state of Wyoming, she has betrayed the country, and she has betrayed the Constitution,” said Mike Heath, Precinct 6-1, speaking first in favor of the resolution.
In opposition to the resolution of censure Boyd Wiggam, Precinct 2-13, said, “I believe we lost sight of what happened, what we do know is on Jan. 6 a group of people stormed the capital with the implicit intent of trying to stop the constitutional process of certifying the election. I voted for President Trump. I voted for Liz Cheney but, there is no question in my mind as I watched and heard the events unfold that what was happening was an afront to the Constitution. At that point, I believe that anybody who is an elected official who facilitated or took part in that in any way, shape, or form should be subject to removal from office.”
A member of the LCGOP, Darin Smith, Precinct 3-4, was at the U.S. Capitol on Jan. 6 and said it was very peaceful and quiet. Trump told them to go there peacefully to exercise their constitutional rights, causing the room to break out in applause.
One amendment made to the resolution, brought by Don Erickson, Precinct 3-4, and approved by the committee, was eliminating the phrase, “whereas video evidence suggests that the riot at the capital was instigated by Antifa and BLM.” Committee members found it distracting to the real issue of censuring Cheney.
LCGOP’s resolution also did not call for Cheney to resign from her position differing from the Wyoming GOP resolution.

US Rep Liz Cheney addressing the Rotary Club of Cheyenne via Zoom.
On Wednesday, Cheney spoke to the Cheyenne Rotary Club via Zoom and addressed the fact that the LCGOP voted to censure her.
“The oath that I took can never bend to political pressure, to mob rule, or to partisanship, and that’s what we should want from all of our elected officials,” she said. “Because if you are unwilling to defend the Constitution, or if you’re only willing to defend it when it serves your political purpose, then the Constitution will not stand. It only survives, and our governmental structure only survives if people of goodwill, who take that oath of office, are willing to fulfill it, no matter what the politics or what the partisanship is behind it. So I look forward very much to continuing to talk to the Republican Party around the state, talking to our voters on both sides of the aisle, having these discussions.”
