Kathy Russell is running for House District 7 and she is taking her political involvement to the next level. Russel says she will be a leader who listens to her constituents and not succumb to political pressure or follow her own agenda.

Why have you decided to run in this election?

I decided to run because I am a fighting conservative who has a deep understanding of the values the people of Wyoming care about—faith, freedom, family, personal responsibility and community. For years, politicians in Cheyenne have bowed to a political agenda being pushed by the far left. They don’t represent us or our principles. We need someone in every seat, and especially this one, who will protect and promote our traditional conservative values. I am ready for the job.

Have you held a political office before, or have you run before?

I was a city council member in Douglas. For the past six years I have been the Executive Director of the Wyoming Republican Party. These experiences have made me very aware of the desires of our conservative community and the needs which will push our priorities forward.

What is your background and what qualifies you to be elected to office?

Before I became politically involved, I was a secondary school science teacher for a short period, had an almost 20-year career in the energy industry as an oil and gas field project manager and senior regulatory analyst. My education and experience planted in me a deep respect and knowledge of our natural resources.

I have appeared before lawmakers in committee meetings and testified on behalf of the Wyoming GOP multiple times. I know legislative process well and am fortunate enough to have developed relationships with many of the legislators and with our statewide officials.

The most important credential is my role as a mother and grandmother who spent my life instilling conservative values into my family. That’s the kind of representative we need – someone who understands what Wyoming families want and need, and how to protect them from the harmful policies that have been pushed onto us from the left and even from some of our own ‘Republicans’ who sympathize with the liberal agenda.

What will be your number one priority if elected to office?

My number one priority is the protection of our children. In recent years, there have been numerous radical ideas including child transgender agendas and men in women’s locker rooms and on their sports teams. The ideas espoused by the leftist political machine are not only unsafe for our children but will also lead to the destruction of our way of life and our family values. As leaders, we must take point position in ensuring that our children, our future, are protected, and giving parents every opportunity to be involved in their life and education.

Do you believe that there are issues in current state politics? What will you do to address these issues? If you don’t believe there are issues, how do you plan to keep the status quo?

Too many times our so-called ‘Republican’ leaders have failed to stand up for our children, for our jobs, for small businesses, for good government, and more. They clearly have an agenda of their own and have decided that listening to their constituents is not in their job description. We need true conservative leaders who will devote their time and energy actually listening to the people they represent. I will listen to and fight for the people of my district, and of the state, not for what might be best for a political career.

As a Republican candidate, would you be willing to sign a pledge to follow the State GOP platform by at least 80%? If not, why?

Absolutely I would sign this pledge and am already committed to those principles. I led the way in developing a platform that would serve the interests of conservatives and Wyomingites across the state and Cheyenne politicians would be smart to take notes.

Who do you get inspiration from? Are there any leaders or politicians, past or present, that you admire?

Trump has been an inspiration to me and to millions of Americans for his fighting spirit and unrelenting conservative values. Likewise, and maybe more importantly, Harriet Hageman inspires me. They both are unafraid to champion the values that make America great like closing the border, working toward energy independence, keeping more dollars in the pockets of everyday Americans, and standing firm against the liberal left.
